In preparation for construction of the new Melling interchange and bridge over Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River, the old skate park on Block Road and buildings on High and Rutherford streets, and Queens Drive need to be cleared.

Demolition started in March 2025, and will be completed by Ceres NZ on behalf of NZ Transport Agency as part of the SH2 Melling Transport Improvements project.

Work is scheduled to be completed in July 2025.

Note: This work is dependent on weather and other factors and may be subject to change at times.

Areas will remain closed off as they may be used for storage of various material ahead of main construction which starts later this year.

Please also expect some local road detours at times.

We are also recycling/reutilising as much material as possible.

Block Road skate park (Complete)

Demolition of the old Block Road skate park was completed in April 2025.

Demolition of 317, 291-301 High Street, 51 Rutherford Street, and 144 Queens Drive

This will happen from the top down. Perimeter walls will then be removed before the foundations are demolished.

We understand this type of work can be disruptive at times so want to thank nearby businesses and the community for their patience and understanding as this work has progressed.

During this work, the footpath around these areas will be closed. There will also be traffic management and detours in place so please expect some disruption.

We continue to work with nearby businesses to mitigate as much disruption as possible.
