Demolition works for Melling Transport Improvements (Completed)
In preparation for construction of the new Melling interchange and bridge over Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River, the old skate park on Block Road and buildings on High and Rutherford streets, and Queens Drive need to be cleared.
Demolition started in March 2025 and is now complete.
Areas will remain closed off as they may be used for storage of various material ahead of main construction which starts later this year.
This work is part of the SH2 Melling Transport Improvements project, a key part of Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi.

- Block Road skate park (Complete)
Demolition of the old Block Road skate park was completed in April 2025.

Demolition of 291-301 High Street was completed in May 2025.
- 51 Rutherford Street (Complete)
Demolition of 51 Rutherford Street (the old spa pool showroom) is complete.
- 144 Queens Drive (Complete)
Demolition of a portion of 291-301 High Street is complete.
- 317 High Street (Complete)
Demolition of 317 High Street (old MSD building) is complete.
