Riverside Park
What’s happening?
A new Riverside Park and car park is being planned along the river, between Ewen Bridge and the Melling Bridge on the city side of the river.
This work is being delivered alongside major flood protection and transport improvements, helping to reshape the river edge and better connect it with the city centre.
The park will transform this part of the river edge into an accessible, people-focused space that connects directly with surrounding streets, the city centre and nearby destinations.
Why this work is important
This project supports a long-term vision for a city centre that nurtures its people and its riverside environment, creating spaces where communities can gather, relax and thrive.
The park will help reconnect the city with Te Awa Kairangi and bring the river into everyday life.
What this means for you
- New green spaces to relax, play and spend time in
- Better access to the river
- Improved connections between the river and city
- More opportunities for community activity, events and everyday use of the riverfront
Timing
Early concept plans are currently being tested and refined with community input. Proposed plans will go to Council for approval later in 2026, before detailed designs are produced.
